Glaze
a vitrifiable composition for covering earthenware or porcelain. In cookery the word is applied to the white of eggs, or strong gravy or jelly boiled down to the consistency of a thin cream, and used to cover pastry, with a glossy, shining coating. In painting it is used for any kind of varnish intended to preserve the picture from the effects of the atmosphere, and to add brilliancy to the colors.
