Godkin
EDWIN LAWRENCE, an American journalist and essayist; born in Moyne, Ireland, Oct. 2, 1831. He graduated from Queen's College, and came ueen's College, to the United States in early manhood.
After 1865 he was prominent in journalism. In addition to a "History of Hungary," and editorial work on the New York "Nation" and "Evening Post," he produced miscellaneous essays, the most prominent of which appear in "The Problems of Modern Democracy" and "Reflections and Comments"; also "Unforeseen Tendencies of Democracy" (1898). He died in 1902.
