Godwit

a wading bird, Limosa melanura, and the genus Limosa generally. They undergo a double moult, having red plumage when young, and then, after moulting, black with a base of white; on the wings also is a white spot.

The female is larger than the male. The godwit occurs in Europe, also in Africa and India.
