GOLDBERG (gōld'berg), a town of Prussian Silesia, on the Katzbach, 13 miles W. S. W. of Liegnitz. It owes both origin and name to its former rich gold mines: suffered much from Mongols and Hussites, the Thirty Years' War, the campaign of 1813, and finally has manufactures of cloth, flannel, etc. from great fires (1863-1874) ; and now Pop. about 7,000.
