Hatteras

CAPE, a low point of North Carolina, forming part of a sandbank, in lat. 35° 15′ N. and lon. 75° 31′ W. The coast line here turns from the direction of N. E. to that of due N.; violent storms are frequent, and render navigation dangerous and the island is marked by a light raised 190 feet above the sea.
