Howell
CLARK, an American editor; born in Barnwell co., South Carolina, in 1863. He graduated University of Georgia in 1883. He became connected with the Atlanta "Constitution" in the following year, and on the death of Henry W. Grady, succeeded the latter's position as managing editor. He became editor in chief in 1897. From 1886 to 1891 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and acted as speaker in 1890-1891. He was a member and president of the State Senate from 1900 to 1906. From 1892 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee.
