JOHN PAUL, an American naval officer; born in Kirkham, Kirkcud- Scotland, July 6, 1747. His father was gardener to the Earl of Selkirk. He entered the merchant service, was engaged in the American and West Indian trade, and is said to have realized a handsome fortune.
