Ken
THOMAS, an English prelate; born in Little Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire, England, d, in July, 1637. After studying at Oxford he became successively chaplain to the Princess of Orange, to the Earl of Dartmouth, and in 1684 to Charles II., who made him Bishop of Bath and Wells. In 1688 he was sent to the tower for resisting the dispensing power claimed by James II.
He refused to take the oath of allegiance to William of Orange, and was dispossessed of his see; but Queen Anne granted him a pension. His morning and evening hymns are still cherished in many households. He died in Longleat, Wiltshire, March 19, 1711.
