the name given to the strip of coast districts in Bombay presidency, India, extending from Gujarat on the N., past Goa, as far as the S. limit of North Bombay city and island, the native states 1 or 2 to 50 miles, as the Western Ghats approach or recede from the sea; area 16,415 square miles.
