Lewis (CHARLTON MINER American)

CHARLTON MINER, American educator, born in Brooklyn in LEWIS, CHARLTON MINER, an 1866. He graduated from Yale Uni versity in 1886. He took post-graduate courses at that university and at Columbia. He practiced law for several years in New York, and in 1895 became instructor in English at Yale University.

He was appointed assistant professor of English language and literature in 1898, and from 1899 was Emily Sanford professor. He wrote "The Begin nings of English English Literature" (1900); "The Principles of English Verse" (1906); "The Genesis of Hamlet" (1907). He was also a frequent contributor to periodicals and magazines.
