Monongahela City
a city in Washington co., Pa., on the Monongahela river, and on the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie, and the Pennsylvania railroads; 21 miles S. of Pittsburgh. It is in a coal, natural gas, and petroleum region, and has electric lights, daily and weekly newspapers, and several private banks. It was the first city in the United States to engage in the manufacture of carborundum. Other industries include foundry and machine shop products, paper, flour, and planing mills, etc. Pop.
