Moore (GEORGE THOMAS American)

GEORGE THOMAS, American botanist; born in Indianapolis, 1871; graduated from Harvard, 1895. Had charge of botany department at Dartmouth College, 1899-1891; physiologist and algologist in Bureau of Plant Indusregarded as the greatest living British general. In 1808 he was appointed commander-in-chief of the British army in Portugal to operate against Napoleon.

He advanced to Salamanca, but was finally compelled to retreat to Corunna. The absence of the fleet to receive his wounded, in the hour of victory, Jan. 16, 1809. try, U. S.
