Morgan (JOHN TYLER an American lawyer)

JOHN TYLER, an American lawyer; born in Tennessee, June 20, 1824. He was admitted to the bar in 1845; presidential elector on the Breckenridge ticket in 1860; entered the Confederate service as a private in 1861; promoted for gallant and distinguished services, and in 1863 was commissioned Brigadier-General. He was elected to the United States Senate from Alabama in 1877; re-elected in 1883, 1889, and 1895.

He was appointed one of the commissioners to represent the interests of the United States in the Board of Arbitration to which was submitted the Bering Sea dispute. He died June 11, 1907.
