Multan
or MOOLTAN (möl-tän'), a city of India, in the Punjab, the chief city and capital of a district of same name; 4 miles from the Chenab; partly surrounded by a wall, and overlooked by a fortress of some strength occupied by European troops. The streets are mostly narrow and tortuous. It is one of the most ancient cities in India, and is the center of a large trade. Pop. about 100,000.
