a prophet called the Elkoshite, from Elkosh, where he was born or where he labored; but whether it was in Galilee or in Assyria has not been determined; the time when he flourished is also uncertain. Also the 7th of the Minor Prophets: i. e., of the minor books of prophecy. The theme is "The burden of Nineveh," the utter destruction of which is predicted.
