a parliamentary and municipal berough of England, capital of the county of same name, on the left bank of the Nene, which is connected with the Grand Junction canal. Northampton has one of the three remarkable round churches of the country-a Norman structure. The staple manufacture is boots and shoes for home and export trade. The currying of leather is also carried on on a large scale. There are also iron and brass foundries, breweries, corn mills, etc.
