Paes
or PAEZES, an Indian tribe living in the mountains of Colombia.
They were formerly a powerful, warlike tribe now reduced to about 2,000. They live in villages and follow agriculture and though inhabiting a cold region wear few clothes. lombia in 1821. At first he acted in concert with Bolivar, but in 1829 he placed himself at the head of the revolution which culminated in the independence of Venezuela, of which he was the first president. He spent the latter part of his life in the United States. He died in exile in New York, May 7, 1873.
