GIOVANNI, an Italian singer and musician; born in 1741. Having early shown musical ability, he was well trained; and in 1763 his first opera ("The Pupil") was performed with great applause at Bologna. From this period commenced a long career of success, at Modena, Parma, Venice, Rome, Milan, Naples, and Venice, Rome, les, and Milan, Naples, and Florence.
