UNIVERSITY OF, a non-sectarian educational institution, founded in 1819 as the Western University of Pennsylvania, under which name it was known until 1908. The enrollment of students in 1919 was 4,191, and the faculty numbered 461. The productive funds in 1919 were $570,000 and the income amounted to $700,000. The library contained about 35,000 volumes. The chancellor was Samuel Black Mc- Cormick, D.D., LL.D.
