Quin
JAMES, an English actor, of Irish parentage; born in London, England, Feb. 24, 1693. He made his first appearance on the stage at Dublin in 1714; shortly afterward he obtained an engagement in London, and gradually acquired celebrity as a tragic actor as well as in comic characters. He retained his pre-eminence till the appearance of Garrick in 1741. His last performance was Falstaff (1753), in which character he is supposed never to have been excelled. He died Jan. 21 , 1766.
