Rabbit
the Lepus cuniculus, a wellknown burrowing rodent, with a very wide geographical range. It probably had its home in the W. portion of the Mediterranean basin, but has spread over western Europe, Great Britain, RABELAIS Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and America. The rabbit is smaller than the hare; its muzzle is slenderer, and the palate larger and narrower. They begin to breed at 6 months old, and have several litters in each year. They are domesticated throughout France and form an important article of food.
