Rawlins
JOHN AARON, an American military officer; born in Galena, Ill., Feb. 13, 1831. Before the Civil War he was a lawyer; adjutant-general of General Grant in September, 1861, and served as such in the campaigns of 1862 and 1863; in March, 1865, was appointed chief of General Grant's staff, with the rank of Brigadier-Ger the U. S. A. in the U. S. A.
RAWLINSON He became Secretary of War in March, 1869. He died in Washington, D. C., Sept. 9, 1869.
