JAMES A., United States Senator from Missouri; born in Ohio in 1861, he was educated at Coe College, Iowa, and admitted to the bar at Cedar Rapids in the same State. In 1887 he leader in the Democratic party in the moved to Missouri, where he became a mayor of Kansas City, and was elected State. From 1900 to 1904 he served as to the Senate for the term 1911-1917. this term he broke from the leader- In 1917 he was re-elected, and during ship of President Wilson and became the President. one of the bitterest opponents of the the President.
