Schumann-Heink
ERNESTINE, Prague, Bohemia, in 1861. She was educated at a convent in her native city, and made her first operatic appearance as in 1878. Later she appeared in Hama contralto at the Dresden Court Opera, burg and Berlin, and finally at Bayreuth, where she acquired an international repu- SCHUMANN tation. Eventually she came to the the C major symphony (1846), "Gene- United States and became a member of the Metropolitan Opera Company, N. Y., MADAME ERNESTINE SCHUMANN-HEINK for several seasons, after which she appeared regularly both on the operatic and on the concert stage throughout the United States.
