Sheriffmuir

or SHERIFF MOOR, a place in Scotland, in the parish of Dunblane, in Perthshire. Here an indecisive battle was fought between the troops of George I. under the Duke of Argyle, and a rebel force of the adherents of the Stuarts under the Earl of Mar, in 1715.

the wood of the shittah tree of the Bible, of which the tabernacle in the wilderness was principally constructed, is supposed to be the Acacia seyal of the Sinaitic peninsula.

It is a light but cross-grained and enduring wood, of a fine orange-brown color.

Shoddy

old woolen or worsted fabrics torn to pieces by a machine having spiked rollers (termed a devil), cleansed, and the fiber spun with a certain proportion of new wool, the yarn being afterward woven into full bodied but flimsy fabric also known as shoddy, and made into cheap cloth, table covers, etc.
