Stagg
AMOS ALONZO, an American physical director, born in West Orange, N. J., in 1862. He graduated from Yale in 1888, and from the International Y. M. C. A. College, Springfield, Mass., in 1892. From 1892 to 1900 he was associate professor and director of the department of physical culture and athletics of the University of Chicago, and in 1900 became full professor. He became a member of the football rules committee in 1904, and was a member of various American committees on Olympic Games, as well as, in 1911 and 1912 1912, president of the Society of Directors of Physical Education in Colleges. The athletic field of the University of Chicago was named in his honor "Stagg Field."
