Taurus (Mountain chain in Asiatic)

a mountain chain in Asiatic Turkey, stretching for about 500 miles from the Euphrates to the Ægean Sea, latterly running N. of the Gulf of Adalia. In the E. it takes the name of Alma Dagh, in the W. that of Bulghar Dagh.

It descends steeply to the sea on the S.; N. it merges gradually into the plateau of Asia Minor. It is connected by the Alma-Dagh with the chain of Lebanon; TAURUS arches. Tavistock has also a guildhall and by Anti-Taurus, with Ararat, El- a west tower (106 feet) resting on burz, and the Caucasus. admiral of the United States navy, born in St. Louis in 1847. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1867 and became an ensign in 1868, going through the grades till he became a rearthe department in 1868 for services durthe department in 1868 for services during the earthquake at Africa.
