Thayer (MARTIN RUSSELL an American)

MARTIN RUSSELL, an American jurist; born in Petersburg, Va., Jan. 27, 1819; was graduated at the University of Pennsylvania in 1840, and admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1842. He was appointed by the governor to revise the revenue laws of Pennsylvania Pennsylvania in 1862; 1862; was a member of Congress in 1863-1867; judge of the district court of Philadelphia in 1867, and presiding judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1874- THAYER 1896. His publications include: "The Duties of Citizenship"; "The Battle of Germantown"; "The Philippines"; "What Is Demanded of the United States by the Obligations of Duty and National Honor"; and many essays, speeches, reviews, etc. He died in 1906.
