Thomas (EARL DENISON American soldier)

EARL DENISON, American soldier, born in McHenry, Ill., 1847, and graduate of the United States Military Academy. During the Civil War he served in the Eighth Illinois Cavalry, though still a boy less than twenty. In 1869 he was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Fifth United States Cavalry. During the Spanish-American War he was appointed inspector general of volunteers. In 1907 he had attained the rank of brigadier-general. In 1890 he was brevetted first lieutenant "for gallant services in action against Indians near Fort McPherson". During 1906-7 he was in charge of the Province of Pinar del Rio, in Cuba, and in 1910 he was in charge of operations on the border of Arizona and New Mexico during the Mexican troubles. In 1911 he was retired.
