University College (Teaching institution belonging)
a college or teaching institution belonging to a university, or such as might belong to a university. The University College, London, is closely connected with London University. The name is given especially to three of the four colleges which are intended to form a Welsh University, viz., the University College of Wales at Aberystwith, University College of South Wales at Cardiff, and the University College of North Wales at Bangor. The students of these colleges, proceeding to degrees, have to go through a course at either London, Dublin, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. At Dundee there is also a university college now connected with St. Andrews University.
