Wade (JAMES F an American military)
JAMES F., an American military officer; born in Ohio, April 14, War; was WADE 1843; entered the Union army as 1st lieutenant in the cavalry in 1861; served with distinction throughout the Civil Brigadier-General of volunteers in 1865; brevetted colonel and General of volunteers. After the war in May, 1898, was appointed a Major- U. S. A., in 1866 1891, and Brigadier-General in 1897; and 1866 ; promoted colonel in in May, 1898, was appointed a Major- General of volunteers. After the war with Spain, in which he took an active part, he was placed at the head of the American Cuban Evacuation Commission; in January, 1899, became military governor of Cuba. He was made majorgeneral in 1903; served in the Philippines, 1901-1904; from 1904 to 1907 commanded the Atlantic Division. He was retired in the latter year.
