Watterson
HENRY, an American journalist and writer, born in Washington, in 1840. He was educated by private tutors and during the Civil War acted as staff officer on the Confederate side and under General Johnston.
He entered journalism following the close of the war, and became the owner and editor of the Louisville " Courier-Journal." His brilliant editorial writing in this paper won him a wide reputation.
He was active in politics and was one of the chief supporters of the nomination of President Wilson, in 1912. He was distinguished as an orator and as a historian. His published writings include "History of the Spanish-American War" (1899); " War" (1899) "Compromises of Life, Lectures and Addresses" (1902) ; "Marse Looking Backward Sketches" (1919). He retired from the editorship of the "Courier-Journal" in 1919.
