Youmans (WILLIAM JAY an American)

WILLIAM JAY, an American chemist; born in Milton, Saratoga co., N. Y., Oct. 14, 1838. He published a book, "Pioneers of Science in America" (1895); edited Huxley's "Lessons in Elementary Physiology," adding a second part, "Elementary Hygiene" (1867); and was for a number of years editor of the "Popular Science Monthly," succeeding his brother Edward. He died in Mount Vernon, N. Y., April 10, 1901. an
