Dissolve 1 ounces mercury in 3½ ounces nitric acid. Stir till effervescence ceases. Heat 16 ounces lard to 200° Fahr., in an earthen vessel, and add the solution, stirring constantly until thoroughly amalgamated. -(U. S. Ph.)
