Moisten 16 troy ounces of the drug with 6 fluid ounces of the alcohol; displace 3 pints as directed in class 1, reserving the first 1/22 the first pint of percolate; distill the remainder until reduced to pint, and, while hot, mix the distillate with the reserved tincture. After standing 24 hours, filter through paper. through paper. acetic acid is introduced to control the tendency to decomposition, caused by the existby the exist ence, in the drugs treated in this manner, of a salt consisting of an alkaloid and an organic acid. The fluid used is a mixture of 1/2 fluid is a mixture of ounce acetic acid and 3 pints diluted alcohol; and the drugs should be reduced to a No. 60 powder.
