Iodide of Iron
Mix together 6 ounces iodine, 2 ounces iron filings, and 4 pints water; boil in a sand-bath until the liquid turns to a pale green, filter, wash the residue with a little water, and evaporate the mixed liquors in an iron vessel, at 2120, to ing time for subsidence, collect the precipitate, wash it frequently with water, and drain.
Then add 2 ounces sugar previously dissolved in 2 fluid ounces water, evaporate over a water-bath to dryness, and keep in a wellstopped bottle.
