Red (Dissolve carmine in aqua)

Dissolve carmine in aqua ammonia and dilute with water to the desired shade; filter as in No. 2648. Or: Dissolve 2647. Sizing for Prints or Engravings to be Colored. Dissolve 4 ounces finest madder lake in a solution of sesquicarbonate pale glue, and 4 ounces white curd soap, in 3 of ammonia, and dilute with water; filter as pints boiling water; add 2 ounces powdered above. alum. Used for sizing prints and engravings before coloring them.
