The officinal solution of the British pharmacopeia consists of 80 grains of the permanganate dissolved in 1 imperial pint distilled water. This is about 1 part by weight to 110 parts water. M. Reveil recommends a standard solution of 10 parts permanganate to 90 of water, so that the solution contains 10 per cent. of permanganate. This latter strength is endorsed by the U. S. 4802. Mackenzie's Solution of Nitrate of Silver. This is used for sponging the throat and fauces, for affections of those parts. Dissolve 20 grains nitrate of silver in 1 fluid ounce distilled water.
