To Solder Grey Cast-Iron

First dip the castings in alcohol, after which, sprinkle muriate of ammonia (sal-ammoniac) over the surface to be soldered. Then hold the casting over a charcoal fire. till the salammoniac begins to smoke, then dip it into melted tin (not solder). This prepares the metal for soldering, which can then be done in the ordinary way.
