Covert
A place where the fox is sheltered, whether wood, thicket, or gorse, &c. Such places have various local names, such as holts, roughs, coppices, or copses, spinneys, shaws, &c. Artificial coverts are often planted, gorse, laurel, withies, hawthorn, &c., being used. Temporary coverts are also made of dead wood and bushes, and are called stick, faggot, or dead coverts.
