Hack or Hatch
A hollow cut in the ice 4 yds. behind the tee, in which the player puts his foot to prevent it from slipping. An ancient plan still followed in some clubs in preference to the Crampit (q.v.) Hair o' pith.-Lit. "a trifle of extra force."
