Lock
Of the wheels; to jam, either accidentally in turning, or intentionally by a skid (q.v.) or hook and chain attached to the felly.
A vehicle which can be turned round sharply, like an omnibus or brougham, does not lock; but if an attempt be made to turn a coach in a narrow road it locks, i.e., the wheels catch the body.
