Nocturne (Fr.) (noc-toorn), Notturno (It.), Nachtstück or Nokturne (Ger.) (noktoor'-neh). Literally, night-piece; a quiet, sentimental composition, usually in Lyric form, but under the title Notturno important compositions for several instruments or full orchestra have been written containing several movements.
