Quadruplet
A group of four notes played in the same time of three or six of the same value.
Quality of Tone [Ger., Klangfarbe or Tonfarbe; Fr., Timbre; It., Timbro]. That which enables us to distinguish between different instruments. The character of a tone quality depends largely upon the presence or absence and relative intensity of its overtones; thus, the tone of a clarionet differs entirely from that of a violin, although all violins and all clarionets do not sound alike. The differences in tone quality that are found among violins, for example, depend on other factors, as the construction, material, weight of strings, individuality of the performer, and many more.
