(I) See Reed. (2) (verb) To interrupt the sound of a wind instrument by raising and lowering the tip of the tongue, as in the act of pronouncing the letter T.

Double-tonguing is produced by a like action of the tip and the middle of the tongue; Triple-tonguing, by the tip, the middle, and the tip.
