Anathema-Maran-atha.-Means "accursed (when) the Lord cometh." Angel. This is derived from the Greek word for a messenger. Apostle. Derived from the Greek, meaning "one who is sent." Ark. The ark was a covered chest or box, the word is also used of a coffin. Three important arks are mentioned: Noah's, the material of which is unknown; that in which the infant Moses was hidden, made of the papyrus of the Nile, and covered with pitch to make it water-tight; and the Ark of the Covenant. This was a chest made of shittim wood, overlaid with gold, on the lid of which was placed the golden "Mercy seat," over which two cherubims extended their wings. It contained the two tables of stone on which "the Covenant" between God and His people was engraved. It was 2 cubits long, 11/½ broad, and 11/2 deep.

Arms. The chief offensive weapons were a sword, spear, javelin, dart, bow and arrow, sling, and dagger. Armour was worn. Artillery. This word is used as a general term for all kinds of projectile weapons, such as bows and arrows, javelins, darts, etc.

Baalism. This "ism" was the worship of Natural Causes, practised by the Canaanite race, and distinguishing them from the Semites who worshipped a Divine Primary Cause. The word Baal means master or owner.

Band of Soldiers. This was the Roman cohort or tenth part of a legion, nominally 600 men-generally about 360 men.
