Titles are fixed forms of expressions of respect originally spontaneous. (a) ENGLISH; (b) FRENCH; (c) GERMAN. [In the case of each form of address-English, French, and German-the superscription always comes first, and then follows the address proper at the beginning of the letter.] I. Emperor or King :- (a) "To the King's Most Excellent Majesty." "Sire," or " May it please Your Majesty." (b) "A Sa Majesté l'Empereur" (or "le Roi"). "Sire," or "Majesté." (c) "Seiner Majestät dem Deutschen Kaiser (und 'Könige')." "Allerdurchlauchtigster, Grossmächtigster Kaiser (und König), Allergnädigster Kaiser (König) und Herr!" 2. Empress or Queen :- (a) "To the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty." "Madam," or "May it please Your Majesty." (b) "A Sa Majesté l'Impératrice " (or "la Reine "). "Madame," or "Votre Majesté." (c) "Ihrer Majestät der (Deutschen Kaiserin und) Königin von (Preussen.") "Allerdurchlauchtigste, Grossmächtigste (Kaiserin and) Königin, Allergnädigste (Kaiserin) Königin und Frau!" 3. Imperial or Royal Prince :- (a) "To His Royal Highness Prince (Christian name)." If a Duke-"To His Royal Highness the Duke of --." "Sir." Refer to as "Your Royal Highness." (b) "A Son Altesse Impériale (or 'Royale') — Le Prince.” "Monseigneur," or "Altesse Impériale (or 'Royale ')." (c) If "Crown Prince"--"Seiner (Kaiserlichen und) Königlichen Hoheit dem Kronprinzen von -." "Durchlauchtigster Kronprinz, Gnädigster Kronprinz und Herr!" If not "Crown Prince"-" Seiner (Kaiserlichen und) Königlichen Hoheit, dem Prinzen (Christian name) von —." "Durchlauchtigster Prinz, Gnädigster Prinz und Herr!" 4. Imperial or Royal Princess :-
