Folio 13.
Mar. 28 To Mdse. 1,280 00 Mar. 31 By Balance 1,280 00 To Balance brought down 1,280 00 Having completed the posting we next proceed to find out the condition of our business. This is done in Single-entry by drawing off a statement of our resources and liabilities. Our resources consist of cash on hand, goods in stock, bills receivable, accounts of persons who are in our debt, and all kinds of property we possess. Our liabilities consist of the debts we owe and bills payable outstanding. It is the custom of business men to balance their books annually or semi-annually. For this purpose they take an inventory of the goods on hand at that time, and value them, not at the cost price, but at the price they should pay for them at the time the inventory is taken. All the other items necessary for the statement of the resources and liabilities will be found in the Ledger, Cash-book and Bill-book. By reference to the Ledger it will be seen how those accounts which balance of themselves are ruled, and in what way the balance, are brought down. The amounts due stand on the debtor side and what we owe on the creditor side.
