Licinius
A Roman emperor A. D. 307-324. He was a Dacian peasant by birth, and was raised to the rank of Augustus by the emperor Galerius. Licinius, C. A tribune of the people, celebrated for his intrigues and ability. He was a plebeian, and was the first of that class that was raised to the office of master of the horse to the dictator. There were a number of other Romans of the same name.
Ligarius, Q. He fought on the side of the Pompeian party in Africa, and was defended by Cicero before Caesar in a speech still extant.
Ligarius joined the conspirators who assassinated Caesar in B. c. 44, and perished in the proscription of the triumvirs in 43.
