Crockett, Samuel Rutherford

Samuel Rutherford (1862-), a Scottish novelist. He was educated at Edinburgh and Oxford, and entered the ministry of the Free Church of Scotland. He was pastor of Penicuik for some years, but finally abandoned the ministry for literature. His first novel was The Stickit Minister. Other well known stories are The Lilac Sunbonnet, The Men of the Moss Hags, The Red Axe, The Black Douglas, The Firebrand, The Silver Skull, Kit Kennedy, and Joan of the Sword Hand.
